Split cylindrical bearings are designed to help increase operational life and reduce maintenance expense. Split cylindrical roller bearings are intended primarily for bearing arrangements which
are difficult to access or for cranked shafts. It is advantageous to use them in all cases where the maintenance or replacement of non-split bearings would require considerable extra time-
consuming effort and would cause long and expensive or even inadmissible machine downtime. The main applications for split cylindrical roller bearings are cold tube rolling mill (Pilger mill)
crankshafts, bucket wheel excavators, rolling mill drive spindles as well as large ventilation installations.
Split spherical roller bearings are primarily used for bearing positions which are difficult to access such as on long shafts which require support at several positions, or on cranked shafts.
Their use is also beneficial where non-split bearings would require considerable time and effort for maintenance and more particularly for replacement; this would also cause long and expensive, or
perhaps even inadmissibly long machine downtime. Split spherical roller bearings offer the optimum solution to such problems. The main application areas include conveyor equipment, long multiple-
supported shafts and large ventilation plants.
